WORK PRO PA1254 amplifier

WOKR PRO PA1254 eindversterker

In this brand new column ‘Tested by our technician’ the audio experts of Tau Audio Solutions are testing and review different products and solutions.

WORK PRO offers an exclusive range of products, aimed at meeting the need of the user. In the product portfolio of WORK PRO you can find various types of loudspeakers; surface mounted, column speakers, pendant speakers and many more. Also (100V) amplifiers, mixers, players and microphone systems are part of the product range of WORK PRO. This time we have tested the PA1254 amplifier of WORK PRO.

Efficient and powerful

The PA1254 of WORK PRO is a 4x150W power amplifier (at 4 Ω) with a build-in cross-over and 9 operation modes. The amplifier takes up little space, because it’s only 1U high. It has 4 volume controls on the front of the amplifier with the necessary signal, clip, bridged an protection LEDs. When the amplifier is switched on, the on/off switch is illuminated in a nice diffuse blue light.
The PA1254 is equipped with class D power amplifiers. There are two modules inside the device; each module contains a power supply with two power amplifiers. Overall, it all looks neat. The small LEDs on the print indicate when the amplifier is switched on.

First of all, we connect the amplifier on our dummy load. In this way we can test what the output power is at 4 and 8 ohms. The measurement is performed at 1kHz. We are turning the volume higher until the clip-LED switched on, and we are not yet able to detect any clear distortion on the oscilloscope.

At 4 ohms we measure an output voltage of 24.6Vrms. At 8 ohms we measure 24.9Vrms. This correspondent to 151W an 90W, respectively. This is fully accordance with the specifications of the device. Of course we also want to know what happens when we turn the frequency up. At 20 KHz, an amazing 26.7V comes out of the device, this is almost 180W. After a few minutes on full power, you will be also hear the fan.

Good music reproduction and silent

Than we listen without any input signal. It’s quiet, even when we the put our ear near the tweeter. No noise and no buzz at all. The music reproduction is also good, there is nothing to complain about, especially considering the price of the device.

9 different modes

All connections to the device are made with the supplied Euroblock connectors. The nine modes are:

1- 4 channels independently
2- All channels parallel
3- A and B bridged, C and D bridged
4- A and B parallel, C and D parallel
5- A and B stereo, C and D bridged (Full-range)
6- A and B parallel, C and D bridged (Full-range)
7- A and B stereo, C and D bridged (Subwoofer, input C)
8- A and B stereo, C and D bridged (Subwoofer, input A)
9- Mute/Fan test

Suitable for many purposes

These 9 modes gives you various options. Except mode 9, this mode is only for testing the fan. In mode 2, a total of 16 NEO 5 speakers can be connected. This is very usefully, for example, to use in a restaurant. An another suitable solutions for a restaurant are eight OHM Bootique speakers with an BRS12 subwoofer. In this example the PA1254 amplifier is switched in mode 8. With the build-in crossover, which is active in modes 7 and 8, this can be perfectly adjust. Even up to 16 Bootique speakers can be connect on the PA1254, because these are 16 Ω speakers.

The fact that these power amplifier can be loaded up to 2 Ω (bridged 4 Ω), and the different modes, makes this amplifier very suitable for many purposes. WORK PRO has indicated various options in the operating instructions for the PA1254 power amplifier.

Conclusion

The WORK PRO PA 1254 a power amplifier that can be used in many different applications, takes up little space in the equipment cabinet and has a good sound.
